If you like fruit pizza but don’t want to spend time cutting fruit and baking a cookie crust, take heart! Follow these simple short cuts and you can enjoy your favorite dessert in no time.
Things You’ll Need
- 1 Twelve Inch Sugar Cookie from the bakery
- 1 12 oz tub of whipped topping
- 1 15 oz can of chunky fruit cocktail
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 small jar of stemless maraschino cherries
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (with the best food chopper)
- 1 cup lemon juice
Purchase a twelve inch sugar cookie from the supermarket or mall bakery. Place the cookie on a serving platter. This will serve as the crust for your fruit pizza.
Thaw the whipped topping slightly and spoon onto the surface of the cookie. Smooth the topping into an even layer. The whipped topping serves as the “sauce” for the pizza.
Drain the chunky fruit cocktail and stemless cherries. If desired, cut the whole cherries into halves. After the fruit mixture is thoroughly drained, distribute evenly across the bed of whipped topping.
Slice the banana into ten to twelve slices. Dip the banana slices into the lemon juice; this will prevent the bananas from turning brown. Place the slices around the pizza in the same manner you would place slices of pepperoni on a traditional pizza.
Sprinkle a layer of chopped nuts over the surface of the pizza. Cover and refrigerate until time to serve.
Tips & Warnings
This simple approach to creating a fruit pizza can be assembled an hour or so before serving and should take no more than five to seven minutes.
Feel free to experiment with the ingredients. For example, you may want to add coconut as a way of enjoying one more layer of flavor. To dress up this recipe for Christmas, use a mixture of red and green cherries.
To make serving easier, cut the cookie into slices before adding the toppings. This will make it easy to use a spatula to serve each individual piece.
This is not a dessert that keeps well overnight. Do not attempt to prepare the fruit pizza the day before you intend to serve it. Since it only take minutes to assemble, there should be no problem putting it together while the rest of the meal is cooking.
