Family get-togethers can be a lot of fun, especially if it’s planned right. Well, a lot of people think that planning is overrated when it comes to family get-togethers and reunions. They think that as long as you make sure that everybody agrees on the venue, everything else pretty much falls into place.

That’s right. A lot of people think that once you schedule a family reunion and serve food and drinks, nature pretty much takes its course. Everybody just proceeds to get along, or, in many cases, not get along.

This is a bit too casual of an attitude, if you ask me. If you really want to make sure that your family get-togethers are a lot of fun and memorable, you have to take a little bit more initiative. You can’t just automatically assume that if these are your flesh and blood, that everybody would get along and see eye to eye. Otherwise, there would be enough random events and conversations that would make for a great time.

That’s assuming too much. Seriously. It doesn’t really matter how well your past get-togethers have gone, but a little bit of advance planning can go a long way in making sure that everybody has a good time.

If you have the typical American extended family, you would know that people come from all over the place. In many cases, people have to actually fly in from the other side of the country, or even from the other side of the planet. You have to take some positive steps to ensure that everybody at least has a good time.

You’re looking for something memorable, you’re looking for something that people can continue to talk about long into the future. You want to increase the likelihood that people can have warm and fond memories of the last time that they saw their kin.

Well, one of the best ways you can take your family reunions and family get-togethers to the next level is baking. Any type of cooking involves some sort of group activity. If you are looking for a great example of this, look back to the times that you, as a family, helped each other prepare the Thanksgiving meal.

Some Important Thanksgiving Lessons

There are many important lessons preparing Thanksgiving meals can teach us. One very important lesson is the importance of team work.

When you are going to prepare a turkey spread, there are a lot of ingredients that have to be prepared ahead of time. There’s a lot of planning. Also, everybody has to know what they’re doing so they don’t end up duplicating other people’s work. People should learn how to work with each other without necessarily getting into each other’s way.

As you probably already know, when it comes to holiday seasons in the United States and elsewhere, it’s very easy to feel a lot of tension. It’s very easy to either feel depressed, pressured, anxious, or worried. The last thing that you want is for your family get-togethers to take your stress levels up a notch or two.

The good news is that by simply planning some baking or some sort of cooking activity, you can tap into the great lessons taught by your Thanksgiving dinners.

When you’re helping prepare a Thanksgiving dinner, everybody knows their part. Everybody knows their role, everybody gets along. It’s very easy for people in your family get-together to feel that they’re part of some sort of big team. It’s very hard to feel left out if you’ve been assigned some ingredients to process for the meal.

You should apply some of these lessons to your family get-togethers regardless of whether they take place around Thanksgiving time or the holiday season.

Try Baking

The great thing about baking bread with the best bread machine is that the same principles that make cooking together fun are at play. When you see many different people baking, what they’re really doing is that they are preparing different parts of the baked bread that would be served.

Somebody prepares the delicious muffins, another person prepares the bread, another family member prepares the cupcakes and cookies. Throughout all of this, other family members prepare and measure different parts of the ingredients.

If coordinated properly, everybody would know their part. Everybody would also know how much they contributed to some great tasting bread, cookies, muffins and cupcakes. And the best part to all of this is that it’s a lot of fun. You can talk while you’re preparing, you can smell the cookies as they bake.

Being in the kitchen as the oven is working its magic can not only be a great way for your family to bond, but it also tastes and smells good. Do yourself a big favor and bake a lot more fun into your family get-togethers. You never know, this might easily turn into an annual family tradition. When you get together, your family might agree to always include some baking activities.
