Many people think I’m a health nut because I try my best to buy all-natural and organic foods for my family as often as possible. I’m aware of the fact that most organic food is usually more expensive than non-organic, but I’m willing to pay whatever I have to when I have extra money. By shopping at my local Big Lots store, I’m able to purchase economical and high quality all-natural and/or organic products on a regular basis. Big Lots is where I first discovered Berkshire Bake House Snack Toast, and the 4.2 oz box was only $1. What initially caught my eye was the rather large “only 40 calories per slice” portion of the front of the box. I also thought that the box itself was quite attractive and colorful as well.
Upon reading the nutrition facts, I discovered that these toast snacks only contain 7 grams of carbohydrates per serving. And in my opinion, even though the toast contains almost no fiber, 7 grams of carbohydrates, 0.5 grams of fat and 50 mg of sodium are very healthy amounts, even for people on low carbohydrate diets. One serving isn’t too small, either, and is almost just right.
My family loves to snack regularly, and after church one Sunday, we decided to try these “cracker-like” snacks before lunch. I very much like the crunch of these “crackers”, but to be quite honest, the taste is very bland when eaten alone. My son chose to eat his toast with cheese, and after he raved about how the cheese really livened up the flavor of the “cracker”, I had to try it for myself. Sure enough, the Berkshire Bake House Snack Toast was very tasty when I combined it with a slice of American cheese, but of course any type of cheese would probably suffice.

All in all, the Berkshire Bake House Snack Toast is a great, low-cost and versatile snack. While most people probably wouldn’t care much for the toast by itself, by adding a bit of cheese, peanut butter, tuna, or any topping of your choice, these “crackers” can be a wonderful and surprisingly tasty snack, without all the sodium, trans fats and artificial ingredients that many similar products on the market contain. And for only $1, you couldn’t ask for a better price, but if you purchase this product from another store, it’s possible that it could cost substantially more than $1, so you might want to check your local Big Lots store as well.
