There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh toast on a lazy Saturday morning, with the whole family coming together at the breakfast table to enjoy a wholesome breakfast together.
However, making enough toast for the whole family in a short amount of time is nearly impossible with a regular two-slice toaster, so the best solution for families who love toast and want it quickly is to invest in a good quality 4-slice toaster, so the process takes half the time.
In this review, we will be taking a look at five of the best 4-slice toasters out there, in addition to discussing the various features and merits of each that you should pay some attention to. With that in mind, let us take a look at the toasters first.

#1 – Cuisinart CPT-180 Metal Classic 4-Slice Toaster
Let us start off with a real classic, the Cuisinart CPT-180. This toaster has all of the features you would expect from a high-end toaster, as well as the good Cuisinart name on top of that.
It is designed in a retro style, which is all the rage these days, with a brushed steel look and stylish controls. However, it’s what lies beneath the surface that counts, and this 4-slice toaster can boast a lot of fantastic features that allows you to take full control over your breakfast.
Firstly, it has separate controls for two slots at a time, which means that you could make two sandwiches at a time with different heat settings and different toasting times. This is exactly the reason why you would choose to buy a 4-slice toaster in the first place, since it allows you to get the toasting done quicker.
The Cuisinart CPT-180 has three different programs as well, and they are: bagel, defrost, and reheat. The bagel setting is a particularly interesting one, since it allows you to only toast one half of the bagel while leaving the other half chewy, just as intended.
Finally, this 4-slice toaster also includes a handy dial that allows you to precisely set the shade of toasting that you want, two pieces at a time. This is essentially a glorified temperature and time control, but thinking of it in terms of shading is a welcome innovation here.
#2 – KRUPS KH734D Breakfast Set 4-Slot Toaster with Brushed and Chrome Stainless Steel Housing
The Krups KH734D 4-slice toaster is one of the best 4-slice toasters we have encountered, both in terms of its durability, and the options it offers. The snazzy old-school design and brushed steel look are helpful as well!
Much like the previous entry on our list, this toaster offers two separate controls for the four slots, as well as numerous program options. These include regular toasting, defrost, reheat, and bagel. The browning control is on a 6-point scale, and it can be set separately for two of the slots as well.
Arguably the most refreshing feature of this toaster is the high lift lever, which allows you to take the slices out of the toaster once they are done, without burning yourself on the hot inner surface of the toaster. Another feature to consider is the fact that this toaster has two separate crumb trays that can be removed and cleaned individually, which really adds to the impression that this is a 2-in-1 toaster.
Finally, it is also important to point out the fact that this toaster features extra-wide slots, which are designed so as to make sure that the slice of bread (or bagel) is right in the center, to promote more even browning. This is a really useful feature, especially when you compare the results to lower-end toasters which are known to burn one side while leaving the other completely white!
#3 – KitchenAid KMT4115OB Toaster with Manual High-Lift Lever
The KitchenAid name is a legendary staple of every self-respecting kitchen, and the same rigor applied to making their famous stand mixers is applied to their toasters as well, as evidenced by this 4-slice toaster.
This toaster features two separate control settings, each controlling two slots at a time. Unlike the pattern established in the previous two entries, this toaster only has two different settings – toast and bagel. This simplified system is great for families who aren’t particularly fussy about their toast, and the absence of too many buttons gives a more striking visual appearance.
The KitchenAid KMT4115OB is made entirely out of metal parts, so that it is more durable, and less prone to warping due to the heat produced inside the toaster. It features 4 extra wide slots which can accommodate breads and bagels of various thickness without much problem.
The shade controls are based on a five point scale, and control two slots at a time. The slots are also fitted with a high lift lever for safer use, as we have already seen in our previous entries.
#4 – Hamilton Beach Brushed Stainless Steel 4-Slice Toaster (24910)
The Hamilton Beach 4-slice toaster is in the lower price rage among the toasters on our list, but it still has all of the characteristics and features one would expect from a great toaster. That makes it arguably the best value for money among them.
It is designed with a clean and simple look, and its outer shell is made of a brushed steel, which is easy to maintain and clean up. It features 4 extra wide slots for bread, which can hold any slice thickness you could possibly want.
This is a simplified model of toaster, seeing as though it has no extra features, unlike many of the other toasters on this list. It only has the option to cancel the toasting that is in progress, and that’s it.
However, the color settings are a bit more elaborate than in the previous 4-slice toasters we’ve covered, since it has a 7 point scale on the dial, which allows you more control over the time and temperature your bread toasts at.
It also features a toast boost which allows you to take the toasted bread out more easily. There are two crumb trays which can be pulled out individually when the time comes to clean the toaster. These can be put back effortlessly after cleaning (and drying!).
#5 – Oster TSSTTRWF4R-SHP 4-Slice Toaster
The final toaster on our list is the Oster Toaster (say that three times fast!), which is available in a clean brushed steel look, as well as a classic red that is sure to pop on your countertop!
In terms of features, it offers 4 extra wide bread slots made to accommodate all sorts of bread, complete with a high rise lever for easier de-toasting. It offers four different toasting options: regular toasting, reheat, frozen and bagel.
The color controls are separate for two of the slots at a time, and the user can take full control of the exact degree to which they want their bread toasted, as this toaster features a 7 point color dial.
Finally, this toaster also has a really neat feature in terms of storage, as the cord is fully retractable, and located at the bottom of the toaster. This is a great solution, since the cord is liable to get damaged when bent manually.
How to Choose a 4-Slot Toaster
To conclude this piece, let us briefly look at some of the features you should look out for when choosing the best 4-slice toaster for your particular needs.
Firstly, you should ask yourself about what you will mainly be using it for. If you want to have more control over the exact way in which your bread is toasted, then you should go for a toaster that has more detailed controls, and more program options. This is especially important if you are a fan of bagels, since these require a specific option on the toaster itself.
Secondly, you should determine the relative durability of the toaster you want to buy. Do you want to splurge on a high-end toaster that will last a lifetime, or will you be satisfied with a simple toaster that gets the job done. There are options on our list to appease both of these requests. The toast that comes out is pretty much the same, but some toasters are built sturdier (and pricier) than others.
Finally, and for some people, most importantly, you would do well to consider the design of the toaster when making a decision. A toaster is a piece of kitchen equipment that will likely be a permanent fixture of your countertop, so having a good looking toaster will highlight the overall appearance of your kitchen.
Naturally, the final decision is up to you. As previously mentioned, the toast that comes out of all these toasters is pretty much the same, but it is sometimes those little details that will prevail on you to settle on one toaster as opposed to another, and we hope this guide has helped you make your decision!
