No Bake Chocolate Matzo Cracker Recipe Tips

Passover is the Jewish holiday commemorating the event in Jewish history in which the Hebrews escaped from Egypt to search for freedom. This holiday has been observed by the Jewish people throughout history, and continues to be one of the most important days for them.

The Passover festival also always implies lots of cooking and preparation. While stores stock ready baked and packaged goods, here is a recipe that everyone will love to make cookies from scratch – and kids will enjoy preparing it too. This is a great addition to the wonderful menu, known particularly for matzo balls and chicken soup.

Matzo Crackers and Ready Chocolate or Cocoa Powder

The only ingredients needed for this delicious, appealing sweet is a box of matzo crackers and a choice of either cocoa powder or a slab of real chocolate that will be melted to form a smooth, liquid chocolate sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 10 – 12 matzo crackers
  • 1 cup of red wine, water or milk (the latter if the cake will not be eaten after a meat meal in accordance with Kashrut laws)
  • 2 large size bars of real chocolate (any color) or 1 cup of cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar and water to mix with the cocoa powder if your choice is not to use real chocolate

Method to Make a Chocolate Passover Cake

Process:

  1. Place the liquid (wine, water, milk) in a flat bowl shaped container so that the square matzo crackers can be dipped, flat, one at a time, to get wet (not soggy)
  2. Place the first matzo square on a flat plate that won’t break the cracker
  3. In the meantime, melt the chocolate, or mix the cocoa powder and hot water and sugar to form a chocolate paste with a consistency of very thick cream.
  4. Spoon the hot chocolate sauce onto the first cracker on the plate.
  5. Dip the next cracker into the liquid, place the cracker on top of the first already-covered-with-chocolate cracker.
  6. Spread another chocolate layer on the second cracker.
  7. Continue the layering by wetting each cracker and covering each one with chocolate.
  8. Put a generous topping of chocolate on the topmost piece.
  9. Cover with foil or plastic wrap and place in the fridge.

The cake can be as large or small as the chef decides. This dessert can be eaten as soon as the chocolate and crackers have dried and stick together.
