Due to a recent move, I have not been baking nearly as much as I usually due. I am still trying to organize my kitchen (which is a lot smaller than my last one) and find extra space here and there. I remember mom saying, “A place for everything and everything in its place?” Well, when it comes to my bake ware and baking equipment, I have a place for everything and everything is kept in its place.

It is important to be prepared before you begin a recipe. Here are some steps to follow before you start a recipe. Make this your baking routine and soon it will be second nature! Read the recipe: I know you’ve heard it before but it is very important to read the recipe before you start.
Gather the ingredients: You don’t have to measure each individual item initially, just have all the ingredients grouped together. You can worry about measuring when you start combining and mixing. Make sure they have not exceeded their shelf life!
Prepare ingredients requiring special handling: When your recipe requires extra preparation for ingredients such as softening butter, toasting nuts, melting chocolate, etc.
Prepare your pan(s): Grease and flour your pans before you start to mix ingredients. By doing this you won’t start making balls of dough only to realize your pan’s not ready for them to be placed.
Preheat your oven to the specified temperature: It usually takes about 10 – 15 minutes for an oven to preheat.
Mix ingredients according to the recipe and in the order it states: If the recipe states to beat the eggs, butter and sugars before adding the flour mixture do so in that order, doing otherwise may very well change the outcome!
Clean work area: While your deliciousness is cooking in the oven, clean the kitchen, put away your ingredients and utensils except for your spatula and cooling racks, which you will need after the recipe has completed cooking.
